Analyis of radioactive wastes

Long-lived radionuclides in liquid radioactive waste samples orginating from nuclear power plants have been analized in order to derive scaling factors between difficult-to-determine nuclides and key-nuclides. A combined radiochemical procedure has been developed and applied (Combined analytical procedure I).

Results vary from container to container and from year to year by orders of magnitude in the same reactor (see example of results of 2 waste storage tanks from the same year in table below).

Correlation between groups of radionuclides varies time to time depending on many parameters in the same reactor.
